My 91 240 starts fine when it’s cold but when the engines been running a while I have trouble getting it started. I have to crank it and continue to tap the gas peddle and quickly shift into reverse. Sometimes it takes a couple try’s. Please help!
start by having the car checked for intake air leaks/vacuum leaks. On some older models, the FI system has an idle air control valve that may need to be cleaned if its sticking. Anything odd going on with the temperature gauge? Its possible your engine coolant temp sensor is off and needs to be tested/replaced. If nothing is going on there, check your fuel pressure. How do the plugs look?
Hard warm starts can sometimes be attributed to a failing fuel pressure regulator. As mt6127 said, check the fuel pressure at the rail. An easy test is to pull the vacuum line off of the regulator and if any gas comes out or smells strongly of gas then it needs replacement. However, lack of gas or fuel smell does NOT tell you that it is good.

Thanks for the help I’m going to pull it off this weekend and take a look! Got to love the forums

Or a bad check valve on the fuel pump. Test the rest pressure and if it drops rapidly, you can clamp the return line off near the regulator to determine if it is the check valve or the regulator.
