Default Water draining into driver and passenger footwells

I've seen posts concerning the cleaning of the cowl vent intake between the windscreen and hood and weep holes under the sill of the frame going along the side of the vehicle but the descriptions and general resolutions that I've found just don't give me enough to go on. I have taken up some of the carpet and found large plastic caps running along the inside of the car that have given me better access to the sill and I have had success cleaning the leaves out in there to a certain degree but the cowl itself is still filled with junk and I just don't know how to remedy that. Other posts have mentioned sticking something up the drain tubes to dislodge what's in there but I am not exactly sure where these tubes are. I found tubes going down the footwell and along the side of the car but I'm not sure if they are the drain tubes in question. They also are very long and I would need to take up the carpet completely in order to find their end point and they are certainly long enough to preclude the use of a hanger for dislodging material (which was a suggested method) so any clarification with locating and cleaning these tubes would be great. I know there's a possibility my soggy footwells are due to a failure in the seal of the windscreen but I'm attacking the cleaning of this draining system before possibly addressing windscreen issues. This vehicle is a 1985 Volvo 240 wagon.




I can see this tube running along the interior next to the sill and I'm afraid to tug on it.

Has anybody gone through this process

Clarification on drainage and cleaning for the cowl vent would be awesome!

This thread was helpful but nothing really helped me understand how to clean the cowl portion

One reply I've pasted below from the thread.


The 240 was designed with airflow into the rockers. Leaf flow, needle flow, dirt flow too. The drains are under the fender and along the pinchweld at the bottom of the rockers. I know them by feel, not sight -- always seems to be a needle protruding from one.

Yes, I think they can overflow into the floor pans at the front of the rockers if the drains are clogged. The reason I say "I think" is I don't know for sure whether it was designed that way or just rusted that way.

Best vacuum attachment I've found is that blue corrugated electrical conduit.

I need to create an attachment like this for sure
