Hello. Just bought a 1989 740GL. I'm not sure of the engine size or if it is a 16V or a n 8V. I looked around under the hood, and couldn't find any markings. Where should I look?

 

Either way it is a 2.3 Liter engine
If it is a 16V it will say it. Also the Valve cover will be very wide. Due to having 2 Cams instead of one.
So most likely you have a B230 enigne.

 

hey, thanks Tech. I really appreciate the help. I'm new to the Volvo world, I've had this one for about 48 hours. Soo far I'm pretty impressed. It has alot of pick for a four cylinder, especially considering the weight. I totalled my Mercedes-Benz 300D on wed. and I picked the 740 up on thurs. Is there anything in particular I need to know about the 740?
