White smoke, oh no!

I'm getting white smoke at tail pipe, and am hoping it can be stopped.

From the driver's seat via side mirror, I can definitely see the smoke when I take off from a complete stop (as in, a red light). The white smoke is more noticeable (to me) when the engine is at temperature.

A month ago the car use to start pretty fast (engine turned over 2-2.5 times and started right up), right now it's starting at about 5-6 turns.

I'll double check, but I don't think it smells of anything.

Possibly a blown head gasket. If you're lucky it's just a leaky radiator hose. Are you losing coolant? Better not overheat the engine or the aluminum head may warp and need replacement. If you have a trusted mechanic, have him do a cylinder compression test.

Blue Goose,

I do have a leaky hose, but how would that lead to white smoke at the exhaust?

I have a mild leak from the hose exiting radiator center left, and comes in just under the water pump (I've been told that's the water pump anyway), and above the belts on the front, left of the engine.

The water splatters onto the engine, at the base of the water pump. I've seen smoke emitting from that area, from the end of the hose specifically, as water evaporates. I'll replace the hose because it is bulging just before the metal tie. I'll check the tie later today for tightness.

Sometimes, when a radiator hose or heater hose leaks, the steam comes out the back of the car while moving down the road and it appears to be coming out the tail pipe. You could have a friend follow you to observe if, in fact, the white smoke or steam is coming directly from the tail pipe. Better to replace both radiator hoses. When one fails the other one is on it's last legs. They're only about $5 each.
