I got some 16" by 7 1/2" bbs wheels with 205/50 tyres and they fit and grip really well, but I wanted to put wider tyres on 225/45/16. I think that they will fit. 15 offset. Has anyone else done similar? If they don't touch anywhere are such wide tyres (relatively speaking)likley to cause any other problems? The diameter is virtually the same as original so the speedo is not a problem.

 

The 225's will easily fit on that rim and will only bulge slightly from the bead lip. Now whether you'll have any rubbing issues remains to be seen but that tire will certainly work fine on the wheel.

 

Thank you JetTech, I will proceed to step two then, bid on ebay for the 225's, There is room. Do you know how much space is in those wheel arches? Heaps.God knows why volvo's always had such skinny wheels & tyres, Space was never an issue but I wondered whether some other problem (ball joint? Tie rod end wear?)precluded wide wheels. Even with the 205's I now fly through corners (well a few favorites) at about 20k's faster than was possible with the originals. Steve
