Wind Noise / Water In Driver Door 240
My 91 240 Driver Door has a lot of wind noise and recently when going thru a car wash, allowed water to come in along the front and top of the door. It appears that the seals are intact (but maybe old, compressed, dried out). It also appears that the top of the door window frame does not come in as far as the passenger side window frame to the body.
I have no idea if a PO swapped out the door prior to repainting the car. It does not look like there has been any body damage as everything is straight and rust free - Arizona car. The door closes well. The interior of the door is the same body color.
I haven’t seen any topics on this in a forum search. I would think something like the following might be addressed: New weather seal installation (how to?) Door / window frame inboard adjustment.
Any suggestions?
Pete

the doors should be flush with the body and each other and the gaps are even top to bottom and front vs rear.
if the 'body' of the door is flush, but the frame seems to be sticking out, then it sounds like the door might be bent a bit. this can happen if a kid hangs and swings on it...
as far as changing the rubber seals, well, I think they are just slid into channels, or they might be glued on, not sure (don't have a 240 anymore to check). the 700/900 had much better door seals, with a inner and outer rubber seal, and flush windshield, they were quiet at 100MPH+ when the 240 was noisy above 75 even when brand new.

I examined the gaps on the inside window frame (problem driver’s side) vs the passenger side. The gap at the top of the window frame is about a small finger width vs almost none on the passenger side. Also I looked at the driver’s door. It appears that it is “proud” (sticks out slightly) from the front fender and the rear door at the area of the upper door hinge. I’ll fiddle around with the striker and hinge bolts / hinge position to get it snugged inboard and see if this solves the issue.
I’m guessing that in order to bring the door inboard the hinge has to be pushed outward a bit. Also the striker possibly should be pulled inboard a bit.
By the way... The Driver’s door significantly fails the dollar bill test on the upper window seal. The dollar bill almost falls out. The passenger door is tight. I’m guessing the PO fiddled around with the door when the body was repainted.

Partial solution: Wind noise - I found that the upper door hinge was not secured properly allowing the door to be “proud” of the front fender. I loosened the 2 bolts and got the door inboard to be even with the front fender. Then I tightened the bolts. The dollar bill test confirms the tightness... The bill does not slide in and out at all. The weather strip is gripping tightly (upper door frame to opening). I’d say the PO didn’t put it together correctly. I noticed no wind noise at 40 mph. I haven’t gone thru a car wash yet, but I would guess that solved the leak as well.
