Default Wiper Pump Ground .... Solution?

The wiper pump doesn't work in my '83 240 Wagon.

Thought I'd remove it and scope things out. I removed the collant expansion tank, so I could then remove the wiper tank. I only needed to move the wiper fluid tankslightly up and out of the metal frame it sits in and, suddenly, the thing starts pumping water like mad.

Trouble is this; as soon as I drop the tankback to it's proper position, it againwill not work.

Looks like a ground problem. Any suggestions on how to remedy?

Thanks.
