Ever since I've had the car OD has been faulty. originally the wires to the shifter where cut. after repairing them it worked (didn't work when first purchased). `once working it would engage harhly, not disengage, sputter, jerk, etc. at different times. now it's dead.

I've got 12V to the solenoid and the "5" light comes on everytime I push the button. I tried removing the sump and cleaning the filters, magnets and checking the operation of the solenoids on the bench and they click and the internal valve gets sucked down by the solenoid. solenoid holds it and releases it ( typing this now makes me more convienced it's the unit).

I'm pretty sure I need an OD unit. Any input???

oh, also I've been using dex mer 3, standard tranny. could that have ****ed it instead of using type F?? from my understanding dex merc is the same **** just better, with additives and cleaners.

 

Did you replace the OD relay?

 

I did, with another unknow we have laying around, but was clicking consistenly on the bench. when I drove it home it wouldn't do anything. the light comes on everytime, but nothing.

 

I'm looking in a bently for 240's, from my understanding there's 240's with the m46 tranny or very similar OD unit. 740's and 240 are practically the same thing, so a lot of the testing transfers over. anyway, it's saying to listen for a click and the solenoid in 4th pressing the button and I can definetly hear the solenoid click and releasing.

anyone have a know good J type OD unit with solenoid, etc. ?????
