Default 1996 960 Engine swap

I have a 1996 Volvo 960 Wagon with a blown head gasket - I think, want to get back on the road quick with a pull-a-part engine ($160 guaranteed) and then rebuild engine in the car currently. My question is what engines will interchange? All around this model year look the same. It is a naturally aspirated six cylinder. Would a fwd engine be the same as well? Any input appreciated, I cannot find a cross chart anywhere, but it seems like they used the same engines in several models.

If you try to install an i5 you will have some work cut out for yourself. From the size difference to the HP and management changes, if you want quick you need to stay with the '95 - '98 900 series motors.

Also, have you done a compression test yet?

I did compression test 3 and 4 at 0. I just pulled apart and definitely blown btw 3 and 4. Ordered a new gasket set. Between upper and lower head though there is no gasket? Just sealer?
