Default 760 transmission

Hi,
My '87 Turbo Wagon shifts hard. It acts like it wants to over-rev, but if you take your foot off the gas it will drop into gear. Once in gear, it has no problem until it goes to shift again. Downshift is no problem.

I checked the transmission fluid and it smells bad. I wouldn't say burnt, just bad. I recently bought the car and apparently it had been sitting for quite some time. It has around 140k on it so it really hasn't been driving much of its life. It is a strong car, and will get up and go, I just want to make sure it will stay running for a long time.

Would it be a good idea to get a fluid flush, or is that a bad idea? I have heard that flushing the transmission is not always a good idea.

I'd definitely change the A/T fluid asap and see what happens. Flushing is not necessary-just a good COMPLETE change. 140K is not much for that tranny unless it was badly maintained before.
