My 960 has a problem with running way too rich. It has problems starting and when using the accelerator pedal blows black exhaust which smells 'rich'.

I replaced the fuel regulator and cleaned the intake manifold, throttle valve and air mass sensor. The Air filter is clean and no air obstructions are present. The problem is still present. No error codes have been shown as yet.
Any help or ideas are highly appreciated. Living outside the City I don't want to risk getting stuck on the road driving the car to dealer.

Try cleaning the throttle body, and replace the o2 sensor if it hasn't been done within the last 30,000 miles or so. That should help.
