Default 95 960 Fuel Pump Relay?

I've read conflicting posts as to where the fuel pump relay is located. Some say in the fuse panel on the Left side of the drivers side where the door closes. Others mention behind the ashtray...yet others mention that there are actually 2 in my model, 1 in the fuse panel and the other in the engine bay. They also mention either green or white colored.

I pulled the one with a "J" on it from the fuse panel by the driver's side door, but its' black so I'm not sure if this is it. Volvo Part # 9130269. Hella 12 Volt, 4ra 003 510-73 (maid in Spain)

Can someone once and for all confirm where the relay is located in a 1995 960?

Bob

Passenger compartment fuse box on left corner of the dash.

Several fuses, 2 circuit breakers and 3 relays. The fuel pump relay is the middle one. The other 2 are the overload relays X and 15.

thanks for the response,

I need someone to test my logic:

As I was looking in the engine compartment at the fuses/relays, I noticed several of the "j" relays with the same volvo # as the FP relay located in the fuse panel by the DS door. I removed the one "j" relay for the AC compressor and inserted it for the FP relay and turned the key and still no sound of the pump priming. Since the working compressor relay is exactly the same as the FP relay, doesn't it stand to reason that it should prime the pump if my problem is a relay issue in the first place?

If this does make sense than what do you think my problem may be?

Symptoms:
last week I went to start the car and it conked out within 5 seconds. After about a 10 min. rest it started up and continued without problems for the next few days. 2 days ago it wouldn't start in the morning and hasn't since. Engine cranks but won't turn over and I do not hear the pump priming the fuel tank.[/align]

Do you have any codes stored in the ECM?

These cars had problems with the ECT sensor (coolant temp sensor) that would cause a no start condition. It can set a 1-2-3 DTC in the ECM. The ECT is on the back of the cylinder head near the firewall.

Your logic is good, if the relay is the correct one!

not sure what you mean by codes stored in the ECM...I'm kinda new to this stuff. Would the ECT Sensor cause the pump not to engage when ignition is in position 2? How do I test the ECT?

Very much appreciated.

The '95 960 has a self diagnostic system fitted which can be used to retrieve any fault codes (DTC) that the car sets. These tell you what may be wrong with parts of the control system.

This link will tell you how to find the diagnostic box and how to read the codes. It is headed for the 740 but is relevant to your car.

If you should turn up a code that is not listed then post it here for more help.
