The last thing I have to do is get rid of this check engine light. I started with 3 codes, 2-2-3, 1-2-1 and 1-2-3. I cleared them and the only one that comes back is the 1-2-3. I looked it up and believe this is a "coolant temp sensor signal". The temp gauge on the cluster is working, I have ran the car till it warms up a few times now. But I read on another thread there may be 2 temp sensors, one for the cluster and one for the cel. Is that true?

One more thing, let me make sure I am reading the codes correctly. I am turning the key on, with the engine off. I am plugging the diagnostic connector into #2 under the hood. I pushed the buttone 1 time and read the code. I pressed the button a second time and read the next code. I pressed the button a 3rd time and read another code. I then held the button down for about 6 seconds and let up, then the light came on and I pressed the button for another 6 seconds or so and it seemed to clear the codes.

Another question while I am thinking about it. The sensor I am looking at replacing to fix this CEL is located just below and behind where the top radiator hose fits on the block. Is this the correct sensor? I have tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, but I still have the CEL. Also, I have noticed the car is a little hard to start when the motor is hot. Could this be a result of the faulty sensor?

There should be another sensor on the back of the head that tells the ECU the coolant temp.

Thanks, I will see if I can find it tonight. Hopefully we just missed it when we were plugging everything back in.

Found a 1992 960 wagon, here in Orlando, for $500. Not scared of the cylinder head repair, due to broken TB, but money suddenly in short supply.
Crying shame, that someone won't take on this project. The body is in great shape, and grey interior isn't too bad either.
Granted it has 180,000 miles, but bet it has plenty of life left in it. All this for maybe a total of $1,000 with new tires. Seems allot better than $25,000 for a new POS
