My 1995 960 came with only one key and one remote fob. Which of course is a risky predicament to be in. I'd like to add one fob and two keys.

So far this is what I know, but please correct me if I'm wrong: the key is not chipped, but must be laser-cut. The fob is user-programmable. Both are available for a pretty decent price in eBay. But I'm wondering if ordering a key through Volvo could be cheaper in the long run. Last time I needed a laser cut, it was something ridiculous like $60 using my blank at one of few locksmiths in town that had the correct machine. Since I don't have the original key tag number, maybe it's a moot point. Or is their another way to get the right key form Volvo?

I'd appreciate any insight regrading keys and fobs. Thanks!

 

Buy blanks. Meriden Volvo in CT cuts them for $ 10 each while you wait.

 

I got a replacement S90 key from my Volvo dealer a year ago for about $40, the same as I had paid at a local shop for a pretty poor key for a prior 960. The remotes are about $90 at the dealer. All they needed was the VIN, and I had to show ID and proof of ownership.
