Default 960 misfire codes

i have a 1997 960 with direct ign coils. 3 codes have come up. the car is showing rich l bank #2, #2 cyl misfire, and multiple cyl misfires. checked and changed the plugs. ( all looked good ) is there a test for the coils ? i suspect its the #2 coil acting up. thanks chuck

Swap #2 coil with another cylinder and see if the code changes cylinder.
If so the coil is bad.

i changed the coils around, cleared the codes. #2 still came back as a missfire code. took car for a 20 mile ride. now there are 4 codes. 300 multiple missfire, 301 #1 missfire, 302 #2 missfire, #172 rich 1 bank. did a compression test all were around 225lbs. could it be a ignition ampflier ? if so is it possible to check with a meter ? there are 2 located on the plenium what one controls #s1 &2 ? thanks for your help. chuck

To me sounds like bad coils.
The Amp is Very Very rare to go bad.
Also check the wiring to the coils really good.

Maybe injector.
But go back and relook at the plugs. Where the Connector is the outer part of the rubber on the connector is known to fall apart and the wire slides back.

i removed the wires from the plugs and hooked the wires to the coils ( on 1 & 2 ). then i switched # 1 & #2 injectiors with #5 & #6. cleared codes and 3 codes came back. 300 multipital misfire, 301 #1 misfire , and 302 #2 misfire. so the coils were changed with known good ones, the injectors were changed with known good ones. wiring looks good with good contact on the coils. any other tests i might try ? thanks again chuck

The only other thing I can think of would be a burnt Valve.
Which won't always show up on a compression test.
A leak down test will tell you that.
