So, I got the remote in the mail (eBay purchase), and programmed it per the instructions- 5X on, then hit the button, turn it off.

The lock button works fine, but the unlock does not. In fact, BOTH buttons lock the car, neither unlocks it.

Anyone had this problem and know how to fix it? I have a 97 960 sedan.

There are two possibilities: The remote (transmitter) is not working correctly or you have the wrong one.

There are three possible receivers that can be fitted and the remote must work on the same frequency as the receiver. The attached extract from a Volvo publication gives the details. The receiver is mounted under the dash on the driver's side of the car.
