960 won't run after pulling codes-----
Hi everyone-
I recently purchased a 1993 960 wagon with 240,000 miles, seems like a great car.Itran great during the test drive and for a day or so after I bought it. I decided to pull the codes since the check engine light was on, thank you to this forum for showing me how. I pulled codes 233-Idle air, 214-timing signal, and 212-o2 sensor. Since the car was running well, I decided to order the new parts and clear the codes. I also disconnected the battery cable for about 10 minutes.
I went out to move the car later that day and it wouldn't start. It cranks and will sputter a little during cranking but will not run. Several more attempts later in the day were the same. I seems like it want's to start, but doesn't quite get there. Today (after searching the forum a lot last night) I removed and cleaned the cam sensor and connector (my new one isn't here yet), I cleaned the IAC and installed new sparkplugs. I also tested for fuel at the rail -there is a lot there but I don't know the pressure. The car still does the same thing...cranks, coughs and sputters, but won't run.
Did I do something when I pulled/cleared the codes? Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
jim

Thanks Tech-
Is there a procedure to check spark or should I pull and ground each plug individually and look for spark?
Same question for injector pulse...do I pull the injectors and watch for erratic spray patterns or is there a better way?
Thanks!

Just pull the coil and plug out and check for spark.
For the injectors they have whats called a noid light it is a LED that plugs into the injector plug.
Then you watch for the led to flash.

Iam thinking of replacing the crankshaft position sensor while I'm at it ---- and it only costs $50...where is the sensor located? Is it easily accessed? Thanks again!!
Ok,I located the crankshaft sensor, looks like it is back next to the firewall above the flywheel.
Also, I hooked up my fuel pressure tester tonight and I only saw 10psi while cranking. I poured a little gas down the throttle body and the car fired right up! Fuel pressure while running was only about 20psi. Is this a sign that the fuel pump is no good, or possibly just a clogged filter? I'm going to replace the filter tomorrow and re-test...any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Porblem solved! Turns out only the in-tank pump was working, the main pump was dead. I replaced the pump and filter and I now have ~40 psi at the rail. Thanks for all the help.
