Default 2000 S80 Won't Start After Rebuld, sparks & fuel are there, but won't run

Hello,

First ever post here, and I'm hoping that someone might be able to point me in the right direction (hopefully that's not the direction of a Volvo dealer $$$).

2.5ltr petrol S80 auto 2000/2001 model. Had head off for new gasket. Won't run now.

Timing wheels were all marked up at strip and lined up ready for belt fitting after rebuild.

Car cranks fine, plugs get wet with fuel and spark well when they're out and held on the rocker cover, but the beast won't fire - or even mis-fire.

I've looked all over the place for a sensor that I've forgotten to reconnect or one that isn't grounded well, but I've had no luck.

I'm pretty sure it's not the variator on the VVT, as I think it would make some attempt to fire if that was out a little - and out a lot would be a disaster and I've heard no terrible mechanical noises either.

It seems to me that the ignition timing is way out for some reason, but I can't work it out.

Thanks in advance for any tips.
