Check Engine light.

Check Engine light.
The check engine light has been on for some time. The car runs fine except for the flashing lights on console and dash. Hoping to read the code and maybe it will tell me something. Problem I have is, I can`t find the plug anywhere to plug a diagnostic reader into. My manual is very vague. Can anyone tell me where to plug into to get the codes?

Not sure how to read the codes on a 92. However, for my 97 the manual says that a steady Check Engine Light is okay to drive on. However, it states that a flashing Check Engine Light is very serious and the car should not be driven. Are you sure it is the Check Engine Light that is flashing? If so, check the fluids immediately and get it looked at.

I guess I need to be more specific with my problem.
I just need to read the code and hope it tells me why my shift up arrow on the dash and also the W,S,E, buttons on the console flash between W and S. or E and W.
I replace the gear shift position module, didn`t help. A different speed sensor on the rear end did not help. Everything can be fine, but when the speedo drops too zero, it is like I hit neutral. The motor revs and I let of and slow down and it will hook up again, even tho the speedo reads zero. The speedo will also bounce from 65mph too 95mph back and forth when I was driving 65.
Maybe the fault code will not help me but I would still like to reset it.

There might be some stored codes that may help with diagnostics.
The early obd1 is a little crude but you can read them with the reader on the front fender. Volvo also built in abs, trans, engine, engine component testing, cruise control and electronic hvac into those two little boxes.
Here is a link that will explain and maybe help.
The pnp switch you replaced, there is a required tool for alignment, it is very possible that your new switch may be on of adjustment. It can be do with out the tool, it is just time consuming.
Let us know what you find out.
