knocking.... That's a bad thing right?
I bought a '94 960est. Just recently the motor started knocking. It only does it when its first started and stops shortly after it has been running. I also noticed that the service light comes on, but that too turns off after a bit. The oil level is fine and clear. The two may not even be related. I think the service light may be due to too much gas when started. It flooded out once when I moved it back and forth from the garage to wash it. And I may have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm not a mechanic.
Any input?
Thanks, Ned

The Service light has nothing to do with anything other than the car is telling you nobody has reset the service light in the last xxxx number of miles. Bascially it comes on to tell you you need to pay the dealer to turn it out. It's a pain in the butt when you do your own oil changes. There may be a way to turn it off, but I'm not sure on your particular car. Some of them is done by holding in the oddometer reset button while standing on your head or something like that. I know the 97 and 98 X70 and 850's have to be done through the ODB-II port.
Have the oil pressure check while sitting then started. There might be a problem with the oil pump or the o-rings.
To reset the service light on your car remove the rubber plug in the speedo cluster and push the button with the key on.
