Volvo Owners' Manuals

960: 1997 Volvo 960

850 (Mine comes on sooner and stays on when it has about 2 gallons left - 40 miles): https://www.customers.volvocars.com/...1_1.html#pg1.2

The Scangauge II site. www.ScanGauge.com

I also like the Ultra-Gauge: UltraGauge Automotive Information Center and OBDII Scan Tool
Ok I was referring to the mileage countdown feature I had on my 850 wishing I had something similar on my 960...BTW the 850 is sold.., went to a man who knows how to fix them right...so I dont feel too bad abt it.
I was asking about the 960's little red fuel light...;-)
To the OP the 960 is a great car and if you havent already taken posession of one then you should. Taken care of you should be able to get a good 10 yrs use from it. I'm hoping for much the same.

im reading your things about getting about 25mpg and it makes me think that i got some possible issues with my 92, yea it has 273,000 miles on it and i do 75mph and i live in west virginia, so its all mountains all the time, and last time i calculated it i got 19.9mpg running 89 octane, with new plugs and a fuel filter, i am going to sea foam it at some point and see if that helps any, but i cant complain, got it for $300

Wow, $300. Good deal for a running car. Is it rusted out?

The scan gauge really helps because it causes you to tweek your driving techniques to save a little here and there. One example is that I take my foot off the gas a little sooner when approaching a traffic light or corner. Doesn't matter in the time it takes to get stopped behind the traffic but coming off the gas 10 to 20% sooner does save gas. Last night I tried coasting down one street and seeing if I could make it up the next 2 small hills without applying any gas and I did. Hypermilling is the key, that and realizing that going 65 instead of 75 will only cost you about 1 minute in travel time if the trip is under 20 minutes in the first place, however, it will allow you to get 30 mpg vs 24 mpg in that short trip (20% increase).

good advice and no actually, the car is a 92 960 wagon with just over 273,000 on it and the people who had it before me said it just quit running, it would start but not run, they put a battery in it and no change, they were gonna scrap it and i found out about it, she said $300 and its yours, i put a used battery from work in it to get it into neutral to get a tow truck to take it down to my job (im a bmw mechanic) and i turned the key for the hell of it and started right up and has every since, ive had to replace the ignition control module in it, brake all the way around, trans service and neutral safety switch, but the only rust on the entire car is bottom side of the rear muffler is starting to rust, and the paint on the moon roof is faded but thats it, no dents, dings and never been in a body shop, i couldnt believe it when i got looking under it, theres nothing wrong with it body wise

Ahhhhhhhh, how about take it to a mechanic and pay to have it fixed. That's the exact reason I usually have a car towed when I get a good deal on it. I don't even want them to think I cheated them or something. She wasn't willing to have the work done on it that you did. Why even whine about it???
