Default "Service" dash light

I have a 1987 760 Turbo with 40,000 miles on it.

Yesterday, when I came out of a meeting, I started to come home, and noticed my "Service" light was on.

It went out after about a mile.

Anone have a clue about what I should check? I have had cars that have done this in the past, and it has been low extra coolant in the radiator overflow, but I drive the car very sparingly, so will go under the hood this weekend.

On my 960 this is driven by another mileage-counter that trips after 10,000 miles.

On my cluster there is a little rubber plug and a short reset button underneath. It is like resetting the trip odometer except the button is under the plug.
