Default shiftlock w/ brake not working

slowly but surely the brake shiftlock has finally quit working. now i always have to push the override button to put it out of park. since it was a slow process getting to this point, does that suggest what it might be (other than the switch/harness)? first it worked when i held the brake pedal, then it might take a couple of tries to move the shifter, then waiting a while and several tries.... then nothing.
any ideas out there? i have a new PNP switch/harness that is (1) expensive and (2) a b***h to put in. i would LOVE to return it if there is a possible cheaper alternative to try first!

There is a micro switch that goes bad. You can bypass the switch but the solenoid will click everytime you hit the brakes.

Default where is the microswitch?

do you mean there is a switch at the brake pedal? or do you mean bypassing the PNP switch?

There is a micro switch in the shifter assembly.
It is kind of a pain to get to though. You need to remove the center console to get to it.
The PNP has nothing to do with the shifter coming out of park.

It is more of a pain on the 960. The top part is mainly what you need.

I have the same exact problem with my V70. Is there a similar fix for that and how do I get that console out of there ?

The V70 is easier. Lift the e-bark up. Then slide the e-brake boot and trim to the drivers seat and remove. Then unplug the 2 white plugs. Then open the lid for the console. In the bottom is a little cover. Pop it out and remove the 2 screws.

Shift the car into neutral and start lifting the back of the console up and work it out.

The shift lock switch and solenoid are on the passengers side.

Default 960 Will not shift out of park...

Yesterday my 960 started having this problem as I was bragging to one of my clients how wonderful my 960 was . Had to push the shift lock button to get moving.

Anywho, is this switch expensive at the dealer? Also, what is involved in bypassing the switch? Just jumping the wires or what?

Find the switch and cut the wires on each side of the switch and then connect the wires together.

I removed the center console and found that this has been a problem with this car before. The micro switch is still wired and someone released the ignition cable and put a wooden shim between the shift lock and bracket near the cable end. The shim/wedge had backed out so it quit working. I just wedged the shim back in place and I'm good to go.

Here are my instructions: http://www.atthetipwebs.com/technolo...ock_repair.htm
