Should I get a non-functioning AC compressor
The bearings in my daughters AC compressor screech occasionally. We're about to sell it anyway, and in a mountain town where AC isn't used much. Apparently there's no way to route the fan belt without it? So I'm thinking just one out of a junk yard (if I can find one) or even one that's known not to work but at least its bearings are good. A friend said some compressors can have their bearings replaced. Any suggestions or sources?

You can replace the clutch bearing without removing the compressor. However, you will need room in front of it. Depending on the puller you use, you may need to remove the radiator, which in fact is an easy job. Bearing is about $ 15-20. Here is a diagram.
Long-term, which you don't seem to be interested in, replacing the compressor with a re-man unit is a much better avenue.
Taking the compressor out is a hard job. The biggest problem is removing the engine bracket in the rear of the Compressor, besides emptying the system.
No, there is no other way to route the accessories belt.
