Volvo 960
I bought a 92 960 about a year ago and just love this old car. Anyway, I have a problem with the transmission that is downright weird. My transmission locked up the other night and the car will not start. Plenty of power. Cannot move the shift out of park. I tried the manual switch indicated in the owners manual. Nothing. Checked all fuses, nothing. Brought it to my local mechanic. He cannot figure it out. He called the local volvo dealer who of course will not tell him anything unless they get to work on it. Help!
Something sounds funny with the explination.
Does the car run?
The shifter does not come out of park at all?
Did he disconnect the linkage from the trans and try to move it?

Thanks for responding.
Yeah, it is weird. The shift will not come out of park. I turn the key and all the warning lights go on; lights...etc., but no power to the starter. I pulled the little plastic thing inside the tranmission housing near the lever, but that had no effect.

I think you might have 2 problems. 1. The PNP switch(neutrall safety switch. 2. Something in the shifter assembly might have broke.
Did they disconnect the rod at the trans and see if the trans comes out of park?
