Volvo newbie!
Hello everyone! I have pre-emptively joined this forum. I am hopefully purchasing a '96 960 this afternoon. There are two I'm looking at. One with 152k miles, and another at 170k miles. Any suggestion on issues I need to be looking for on these vehicles? Should I be looking for something with lower miles? I hear all these stories of Volvos lasting 300k+ miles, are they really true? I'm making the switch from Cadillac to Volvo and couln't be more thrilled!!!

RE: Volvo newbie!
Welcome to the forum.
At the very least ask about when the timing belt was last changed. They need to be replaced every 70 k miles. If the belt breaks catastrophic engine damage will occur. They are interference engines. If the answer is I don't know you may want to have it inspected and be prepared to replace it. One garage in my town gets about $800 to do the service, but they chnge the water pump and tensioner at the same time. I have a 1997 960 wagon, and I like it. You just have to be prepared to do some work yourself or these things will become expensive.
Good Luck
