Looking for any opinions on a couple issues with a 1996 960:

1. When I first start the car after it sits for a while, there is a whining noise that sounds like it comes from the engine. it stops after about 10-30 seconds. It also comes back sometimes when stopped at a red light. It doens't seem to impact the way the car drives at all though.

2. Sounds like the left wheel is grinding when making hard left turns, like in a parking garage. I know I need tires, but it sounds like something worse.

Noise may be the cold start air pump.

Not sure about grinding noise.

 

Just in case anyone else looks at this, here's what the problem was/is:

Timing Belt Idler Pulleys were replaced along with Timing Belt and drivetrain belt, and the air pump mounts were broke. Not sure what was making the whining noise, but those things being fixed made it stop.

The grinding is Control Arm bushings and tie rod ends, which is similar to waht I was afraid of. The fact the tires are horrible doesn't help any sound either.
