Default 1995 850 turbo timing belt

I am going to take a crack at changing the timing belt. The marks should be lined up as I take the old one off if I am not mistaking. I have the internet info and a manual so I should be ok. I am pretty mechanically inclined and should be fine.

Any pointers from anyone who has changed the timing belt or direct email to ask any questions.

Thanks

You should be fine. Do you have air tools?

Do you suggest an air wrench? I have a good air compressor

To make it easier I always remove the crank pulley so the belt comes off easier and goes back on easier. You only remove the part the serpentine belt rides on.

Is it very hard to remove with just a socket or do you need an air wrench. I do have an air gun. Shouldn't the timing marks be lined up from the belt that is on there.

I learned a trick to taking off a crank pully bolt. Put a socket and breaker bar on the bolt and position the handle of there breaker bar on the ground or frame. Turn the key briefly and it will rotate the crank clockwise thus putting an opposite force on the bolt breaking it loose.

There is a pin on the front of the motor like under the timing pulley that makes it a pain to get the belt out.

I did this using the writeup on volvospeed.com. It's all you need. Even I, an inexperienced "shade tree mechanic", was able to do it without destroying my engine. I didn't have an air compressor but do now, the next one I do (if I do indeed do another one) I will take that pulley off. I spent at least 45 minutes trying to get that damn belt on!!! And another 45 minutes trying to get the serpentine belt on (but that's a different story).

What socket size is the pulley nut and how do you keep it from moving.

If you don't want to buy it go to Advance they have a wheel bearing kit with the 30mm in it, $50 or something, return it and you get your $$ back. That's what I do.

Default tensioner

I am taking apart and I can see oil coming down side of tensioner. Should I replace even if it resets

I opened everything up and did not have a tool to pull back the serpentine tensioner. ANY IDEAS for me. What size is the square whole.

Also I will need to pull the crank pulley off. DO I NEED TO USE A PULLER!

I am ordering a tensioner for the timing belt so I put everything back together and will tackle next week.

Your thoughts are appreciated

On mine I just used a 3/8 drive ratchet. Mine is a 94 N/A.

Default tensioner

When I had the wheel off, it looked like the tensioner was not making contact with the pulley. How exactly does it work and should it be against the pulley

Does any one have pictures of the tensioner in position?

It is touching the bottom of the bracket holding the pulley. It is hard to see it.

What I have done on a jam was used a prybar between the pulley and bracket and was able to move the tensioner to get the belt off.
