Default 1997 R won't go over 20

When I purchased my 1997 R someone had put an aftermarket boost gauge on it that I have recently removed. When I removed the line near the engine it left an open hole that created a sucking noise, so I used some trusty duct tape and sealed that off. Everything worked fine for some time, but now I am having problems again. The car will not go over about 20mph, and the turbo gauge in the dash never goes into the white. I am guessing this is a vacuum problem. Any suggestions?
It has been very cold here lately-just thought that may have something to do with all of this.

Thank you in advance for any help,

Hello,
I had a similar problem with my 95 850 T5. Some cold mornings, it had no power, and if I would let it warm up it would be fine. I had both the mass air flow sensor and the 02 sensor changed and it works well now. You should probable have both of them checked because it could be one of the two or even both. Total in parts it's around $500 but you could look for used ones on Ebay.
Let me know how you make out.

-Good luck

The OP said the magical words. He removed the boost gauge and closed a hole with duct tape. Seems like he removed a vaccum hose and tried to get away with it by doing a quick fix. When you should have replaced it with another vaccum line.

I agree, if it worked fine before the gauge was installed, that is probably where the trouble started. I'm guessing like S70 Driver said.....bad vacuum line
