Neither the brake light in the hatch, nor the license plate lights are functioning on my 97 850 wagon. Lights have been replaced to no avail. Is there perhaps a common ground in there somewhere like 740s have up in the fenders? All of my fuses are good. The main brake lights function normally. The bulb failure indicator only comes on where depressing the brake pedal. I have read that the license plate lights are not part of that circuit.


When I first got the car, when you stepped on the brakes, the license plate lights would go out. Thats what got me hoping for a dirty ground block or something of that nature. I haven't found anything though.

Ok,

Got the brake light working.. Dirty connection on the back of the plug..

Still no power at the plate lights. Power at the fuse. No power at the lights.

Need to check the headlight switch.

 

Check the wire harness going from the car into the hatch to see if any of the wires are broken. That is normally the major fail point in the wires because they are always moving with the tail gate.
