850 Aircon does not work
Hi all.
The ECC climate control in my 94 850 GLT is not working.
What happens is: when the ignition key is turned to acc the aircon fan starts at full blast and when the ignition key is turned to start and the motor starts, nine times out of ten, the fan will stop.
The compressor does not engage at all and the fan slide button on the aircon control module on the dash does not work.
I have changed the blower ressistor with no difference.
I have tried another fan with no difference.
I have tried another Aircon control module with no differrence.
Can someone please advise if there is a fix for it as I am lost and don't know what else to do other than take the car to a Volvo dealer to fix and pay through the nose.
Also the roof lining is comming unstuck. Is there an easy fic for this?
Your comments would be appreciated.
Regards
Ike.

Check your charge if the system is really low on freon the compressor will not even kick on. There is a pressure switch right near the passenger side firewall you can jump very briefly to make sure your compressor is ok a lot of times if it has been used a lot it will need to be reshimmed.

I think the AC charge isn't anything to worry about (yet) as you are having a problem with the blower motor and it should work properly even if one of the AC lines is broken clean in half.
You've replaced the three major components in the system so unless you managed to get one of the used components with the same problem you were trying to fix I'm thinking it might be the ignition switch. Next time the fan dies when you release the key from the start position try moving the key a bit in it's run position. Move it a little forward and a little backward to see if you can get the fan to start working. Just don't move it forward enough that you re-engauge the starter.

Thanks for your input Kiss4aFrog.
I will try what you say with the ignition switch and see if it makes any difference. Funny enough, I was thinking about the ignition switch today.
The car is with my mechanic at the moment for a safety inspection and to check the aircon problem. We'll see what he comes back with.
