Default 850 Brakes

I just bought a '96 850 GLT, the brakes seem to heavy on it, I just checked the front and rear pads and they look fine. The car idles at 1900 RPM's (is this normal??????) At a redlight, you have to really mash the brakes to keep it from going, any ideas??????/
Thanks in Advance!

Whoa!

Something is absolutely wrong there. The car should be idling at about 900-1000 RPM not 1900 RPM. You also shouldn't need to really mash the breaks to keep the car from rolling while sitting at a stoplight (assuming you’re on roughly level ground). My only guess as to what might be causing this very high idle would be your TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) is out of sync or something, but I'm not sure on that.

One other thing that will cause both of those problems is a bad brake booster or the vaccum line off the booster.

The idle should be at about 700 to 800 RPM.
