Newbie in this neighborhood and would greatly appreciate your help - our twins are stranded !!!

Our girls' '94 850 (95K) starts but shutoff immediately. It was driven 8 miles to work, sat for 7 hours. At the end of work, it started, stalled, but restarted ok. She drove it 5 miles, stopped at the supermarket for less than an hour, and then the car wouldn't start and stay on. Tried again late lastnight - same results - starts then shutoff immediately!

This could be a fuel delivery problem. A fuel pump going out can do this. What you can try is tapping the gas tank w/ a 2x4 when it happens.

Also, checked for any codes that may be stored on the computer.

 

Thanks code33. Replaced the fuel pump relay based on the previous threads on this subject. So far the 850 is back on the road. Will come back if problem returns.

You should also replace the fuel filter if it hasn't been done as a part of routine maintenance. Another item to think about is the fuel pump relay that is in the fuse box under the hood near the driver. You need to unscrew the four torx screws and remove the cover to see it. It'll be marked 103 on top. This part tends to fail at about your mileage.

 

Could also be a bad Cam sensor.

 

Would a bad cam sensor normally throw a code/CEL?

 

Not all the time.
