Default 850 steering shaft

guys l need your help. l have a leak from my steering shaft. l want to ask if there is a seal there that can be replaced without getting a new rack and pinion? or once that goes bad, means the steering rack needs replacing or can the seal in the steering shaft be replaced? thank you

I'm not sure where your steering system is leaking, however, most people try to use a power steering leak sealer first. I have heard that the best is a product from Valvoline, Max Life power steering "stuff". I put Lucas in mine. Slowed down the leak a lot but has not stopped it yet. I'll add another bottle before I go tearing out a rack.

The stuff is suppose to condition the seals and make them swell I think. Soften them up and that will usually do the trick for a while. Some have never seen a leak again. I was leaking about 8 oz per week, now I'm down to about 2 oz per week. Maybe this last / second bottle will do it for me. If you have a hydraulic line leaking, that's a whole different story. I thought that was my problem but maybe not.

If you have the time, tools and temperament, they do make a reseal kit.
I would think you could get just the seal for the steering shaft but not sure if it would be dealer or ???

ok l got my replacement rack on now.it was an easy job taking out the rack and replacing it but the problem l had was the steering coupling.OMG it was a pain.the rach shaft wont fit in.l had to remove the rack again, uninstalled the steering coupling then hammered it onto the shaft. to anyone trying to replace their steering rack, make sure you drop the subframe, remove the sway bar, the remove the steering coupling.its much more easier
