Default How do I get the steering shaft into the upper steering coupler?

I'm working on installing a steering rack (91 240 sedan), with lower coupler and steering shaft attached. How do I get the steering shaft into the upper coupler, as it has only gone in a few millimeters? I've tried wiggling it, but that doesn't seem to do much, and I've tried to remove the lower coupler/u joint, I'm not sure how to do that either. Please help and thank you.

Make sure the pinch bolt is completely removed from the coupler. It prevents the shaft from sliding in and out of the coupler.
