850 turbo overheating
 

My wife drives a 1995 850 turbo. The radiator had a small hole in it, I replaced the radiator and thermostat. now the engine keeps overheating, Does anyone believe that it could just be the cap that is malfunctioning or do you think that it is most likely the water pump? I am leaning toward the water pump. After replacement of radiator there are no external or internal leaks.

It could just be an air pocket.

I did the bleed process as I was told. After installing the radiator I let it idle for twenty minutes with the cap off. Is there something else that I should try to get air out of the system?

Have you squeezed the hoses with the cap off when its warm, Kind of like pumping them?
You can also crack open the block drain for a couple seconds and refill..

You can also try jacking up the passenger side with the car running and warm then lowering it down then repeating.
That might help get the bubbles moving.

The cooling fan kicks on?

Remove the t-stat and see if it still tries to overheat. Maybe it's bad.

fan kicks on no problem. If i just leave it sitting and idle and throttle up it doesn't overheat. As soon as I drive it for a couple of miles after warming up for about 20 minutes is when she rises in temp.

Could be a bad temp sensor...

You can test the ECT (Engine Coolant Sensor) by measuring its resistance at certain temperature. Run a search here in this forum for the specs.
