Default 850 Wagon 1997. Fuel Pump

Hey people, so my fuel pump is on its way out. now in my "Hanes" Book it is telling me that it is accesible from inside the car once i remove back pannels. and it should reveil my fuel pump sender and the top of my fuel pump. So apon doing this it is actually non exsistant there. I've asked my friend that has much more knowledge then me on this. and even he said. well... that doesnt seem right. So i was thinking crap im gunna have to get a shop and drop the tank. now looking in the "Hanes" once again in didnt seem to hard of a challenge. so i got in the shop undo my straps and sure enough its not budging at all and i relise that the fuel tank is wrapped aroudn my exhaust and my drive train./
It says no where that ive seen that i have to drop my drivce train. please!
I need some help here if any comments that would be great. Ill try and go snap some pictures of what is under my access pannels in the car.
Thank you.
Cody

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Did you look in the 850 section of the forum? What model 850 do you have? AWD or FWD?

Canadian, eh? Post pics, I never get tired of seeing 5-spd, AWD 850s. I sure wish we got them down here.

Yep, at first I thought you were kinda ????
because you couldn't find the access panel? I mean they're right there, except on the AWD models; on those (as you have discovered) you have to drop the tank to access the pump. I feel sorry for you but this is one (of many) reason why I steer clear of the AWD models. No offense; like I said, you have my sympathies.

Thank you gdog! Alright then, next question.
How hard is it to drop the tank as I see under the car it is like I need to drop my exhaust and my drivetrain? is that honestly How I must do it? or is it like it will pivot down enough so i can switch it out? or anything? Wish the "Hanes" book menched this thing.

Well, you've actually got two pumps, a primary on one side and booster on the other. From what I've read, it's possible to loosen the tank, and tilt it to one side or the other to pull the pump.
