HI, any help with this problem would be fantastic.

850 2.5cd 20v auto 115k miles runs like a dream BUT when it gets hot (not so much the car but seems to be when the weather is very sunny and hot) when I switch off the ignition wierd things happen like the radio stays on so does the heater fan and A/C light then if you try to start you get all dash lights as normal but nothing else ,no firing or turn over(cranking) just as if you have left the auto box in reverse or drive. after about 15-20 mins try again ..... hey presto fires up drives perfect!

Wife is now freakin out as it has done it to her 2 or 3 times at places like the fuel pump etc. holding everyone up![:@]

Called the aa twice but had to cancel them 'cause it has started! Local garage say it needs to be doing the fault for them to trace[:@][:@]

NEED HELP, has anybody had this happen and foond a cure?

Forgot to mention I have fitted a brand new geniune Ignition switch but still does it

Jiggle the key in the ignition switch when this happens. See if that helps. It could be that the ig. switch has gone bad but the symptons you've describe is not the common symptoms. The common symptoms of worn out ig. switch is after the vehicle starting, you can't shift out of Park, no headlamps, and no tach.

 

Definatlw an electrical problem, like code33 said you should start with the ignition switch and if that checks OK you will have to inspect the wire harness, in doing that pay close attention to all wireconnectors to make sure the contacts in them are good and not coroded in any way.

has the car ever been in an accident? I have known of cars being dammaged in a wrecked and wire harnesses were repaired improperly and they became to have bad connections at the spots they were repaired.

Check all the wire at the Battery terminals.
