Default 94 - 850 Maiden Voyage

Ok guys so I got my plates and took it for a ride...FIRST ONE! :-). I was driving along well enough then all of a sudden a shrill 'whistling' noise came from 'somewhere' I have no Idea what it was. I turned the car off and started it back up, and the noise seemed to disappear. Any Ideas, in that this was my first drive...I am not able to give a whole lot of info...the noise seems to have gone away right now...but I guess we will see...

I took the car over to the people that I bought it from for $300 and they could not believe it is the same car...thanks to everyone here for some great Volvo advice...

Glad it is running pretty good.

Did the noise sound like it was a brake noise or a noise from the engine?

DId you check/replace the timing belt?

I got it running 'right' last night. I was bound and determined to figure it out. Wife went to work and I had the garage all to myself. Since I now Have another 850 to do some parts swapping I decided why not? So I checked the plug wires firs (no I did not have to 'swap' them) but in doing some 'reviews' of other forum posts I pulled one at a time until I determined that all the plug wires are good. Then I took some carb cleaner and sprayed the entire engine while it was running...so not vacuum leaks. (Although there is one little vacuum line that runs along the front of the motor down by the intake manifold that I could not find the end to.). At this point I was confused, did some more reivews and thought maybe the O2 sensor, or MAF, so I thought the MAF is easiest to get to...I put in the MAF from the other car and it started like a champ...and runs like a champ...so THANKS to everyone here.

I then had some 'salt' overspray on the car and wanted to kind of clean it up. I took a spray bottle with some water and light soap and proceeded to wipe down my new winter ride. Well in wiping I smeared my last wax job...OMG, wet at it with some wax remover, got out the buffing compound, and in a short 5 hours the car had been buffed. Then I took some Meguairs NXT 2.0 and waxed that baby, finished off with some Ultimate Quick Detailer...this car is Gorgeous. Looks like a brand new car.

Now a Question, What does it take to move 'heated seats' from my #2 850 to my car? I am probably going to refinish the seat material anyway, but the seat heaters make it nice here in the Ohio winters. Considering this is a Florida Car I'd like to do the seat swap...What is all entailed...

Man my $300 car is looking great!!!

Glad you have finally solved the idling problem!

I have never removed seats in 850 so I cannot give you an accurate advice. The manual states you need to be careful with the SIPS upon removal/installation. See attached. I believe you take precautions for the SIPS, undo the electrical connectors and remove bolts/nuts and take the seat out.

Other members would be able to help you better than I can.
