Hey all, new here and to my Volvo, although I grew up with my parent always owning them.
I am trying to replace the alternator and not having very much luck. I cant seem to find a way to release the tension pulley to just get the belt off without possibly damaging something, I know there has got to be an easy way I am just missing.
Also cant seem to break loose any of the bolts on the bracket it says I need to take off. I cant even get to some of them.
I did a search to see if this has been posted or is a sticky somewhere and had no luck. Sorry if this is a repetive question ( I am sure it is).
By no means am I mechanic but have done alot of my own stuff before, was able to replace a starter on a Cadillac STS Northstar motor, and this Alternator doesnt appear to be to difficult thats why I cant believe it is kicking my butt.
Any suggestions tips would be GREATLY appreciated

A belt tension tool is required to release the belt. There are sites for homemade tools, save yourself knuckle skin, buy the correct tool.Flip the coolant tank out of the way for better viewing area. Two bolts hold the alternator in place. If you can't see them, invest again into a mirror on a stick for better view of the surroundings. After that, you should be able to R&R in no time. Good Luck!!
