1995 is not an OBD-II car. OBD-II doesn't start until 1996- this is the same for most cars, not just Volvos. The diagnostic connector on your car is under the hood, and is read using a sequence of button presses that can be found in a repair manual.

False

+1 Both 1994 and 1995 Volvo 850's are both OBDI and OBDII compliant. 1996 is that date that all cars had to be OBDII compliant, but some models were before that. Just like that picture shows, that's where it is. I have gotten codes pulled many times using an OBDII diagnostics tool.

I have even seen a 1993 850 with a OBDII plug from the factory.

Really? That far back? I feel like Volvo has always been ahead of its time with all of their cars.

Yes I doubted it myself till I myself asked the Customer. They bought it brand new and it was there when they bought it.

dam, go volvo. I think one thing that I find funny is how Volvo has been using turbos for how long, and Ford is making a big deal about this new Ecoboost thing that they have in their 2010 Taurus and how it's turbocharged to help with fuel economy.

And I think they really took a lot of the characteristics of the S40 and used it in their new Taurus, especially the interior with the "floating" dash.

Who do you think Ford learned how to do turbocharging correctly from??

And... I guess you learn something new every day... I never realized that some of the older 850s had OBD-II plugs on them. I don't see THAT many older ones. Now, I know VWs have used them since about 1993 (though they only have the 16- pin connector, but won't communicate with OBD-II readers or display OBD-II codes. They only show pre- OBD-II VAG codes until 1995, when some of them started actually being OBD-II compliant.

Yeah, that's what I was hinting at, I just think it's really funny.

And the OBDII thing isn't very common amongs pre 1996 cars. It's pretty comical though when I go to an Autozone and tell them I need my codes pulled and they try to convince me that it won't work. God, total face palm. They don't say much though when they plug it in and it works. Lawlz.

It is funny how it is odd like that. The 95 wagon I bought for the tranny swap on my car only has OBDI. But there is 93's and 94's with OBDII. Really strange.

There was 2 reasons I hesitated purchasing my Yellow 850 R. I did not like the window switches being in the center console and the fact that I did not know it was OBD-II compliant.

I was very relieved that it had the OBD-II connector. I'm working on the door window switch. I plan to mod mine soon.

I'm so used to it that whenever I get in a car other than mine, my first instinct is to reach to the center console to roll down my window, and then I'm like, oh wait, not a Volvo.
