Default 95 850 pulling steering wheel

Nedd help removing the steering wheel from an 95 850. Has any one ever experienced it freezing on the tappered shaft. I have the air bag out and the nut off but I can not get the steering wheel off.
Any Help.
Im trying to change out the evaporator.

Did you read this?

https://volvoforums.com/m_65730/tm.htm

"Keep tapping lightly" may dislodge whatever is keeping the wheel.

Good luck,

OMG, the steering wheel has to be removed to change the evap? Who designed this? Is it normal procedure on most cars?

Hi Axel,

I wish this independent non-dealer shop was available in the American Continent:

http://wa2954.blogten.jp/30923.html

This shop charges only approx. U.S $400 for evaporator replacement labour, which is surprising as the cost of almost everything in Japan is higher than in the U.S (except used cars, as people in Japan usually don't like used products, so used cars lose value really quickly). I really don't know who designed it, as most cars have evaporator in the back of glove box within easy reach, unlike this one[8D].

↓Even they tell you not to try it at home:

I'll attach some pics.

JPN,

Wow, those pictures are taken from a nightmare. I hope it doesn´t happen to my 850. But considering the luck I´ve been having lately it probably will.

Like somebody said in a previous post, they should force Volvo engineers to work on these cars as punishment for their design mistakes. However I don't think someone can make such a big mistake, it must be intentional so they can charge $1000 for the service.

Hi Axel,

You probably have noticed, the the first 2 pics were from Japanese models; the steering wheel on the right.

>they should force Volvo engineers to work on these cars as punishment for their design mistakes.
I would include the ABS module issue (ATE-German), CEL issue, O2 sensor issue (Bosch-German) sunroof issue, fuel tank issue, AC compressor issue (some Japanese mfg), etc...[8D].

Product quality & customer service seem to be going downhill universally[8D].

Oh well, what do I know.
