95 T5-R auto tranny sounds
i just picked up a 95 T5-R with 79k original miles on it and everything on the car if fine except when i put the car in reverse it make a weird shaking noise almost like something is loose and rattling around, anyone know if this is a common problem or what it could be?
thanks, ian

No that does not sound common at all. Wonder if it could be a broken motor mount? When you put it in reverse it cause the engine to shift. I'm just guessing, but these cars are know to have problems with the motor mounts.
i got a reply on swede speed saying he had the same problem but it was a heat shield that runs along the exhaust if its missing a nut or its broken it will make that sound has anyone else had that problem?
i would go out and look right now but i live in seattle and we have record rains right now and my driveway is in 2 inches of water so im trying to troubleshoot before i go take a swim to look underneath lol

so i finally got the time to go out and look today while changing my oil and i think i found the perpetrator. there was a medium sized flathead screwdriver wedged in between my tranny and the tranny mount obviously pushing the tranny up some relieving weight off the mount(which looked like it was pretty worn possibly missing the smaller side bushing) i tapped out the screwdriver after changing my oil and started up the car and as i went between R N D the engine seemed to shift slightly i don't know if this is a normal trait for the auto tranny on the 850 turbo or T-5R but it was noticeable not huge but noticeable. also the noise it was previously making in reverse seemed to change slightly like more of a metal on metal vibration then a rattling. any suggestions or this this one right in front of my face replace the tranny mount?
pics of the tranny mount (forgive the bad quality all i had on hand was my cell phone)

What a perpetrator[8D].
If you did not see any metal rubbing marks around where the screwdriver was, it could be rubber/urethane bushing that has retired.
Wait to see what Tech would have to say on this.

there was definitely metal on metal marks around it. it wasn't just setting in there it had the whole weight of the tranny on it like i had to get a hammer and pound it out. and as for the tranny mount i am replacing it but should i replace all motor mounts too since the motor itself is moving when i shift or would the tranny mount cause that too?
