Default '96 850 Turbo: Blower Motor Stuck on High

The blower motor is running on high speed, nothing on the ECC panel is working or affecting the speed/on/off/fan direction/defrost. Fan does stop when car is off or fuse is pulled. Replaced the blower motor resistor (Intermotor RU1202) and no change. Motor still running on high speed. ECC panel has driver/passenger temp controls and an AUTO feature to the left of the Off position. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If you are sure you replaced the resistor with a good one, you may have a bad relay under the fuse panel. Swap the J relays there and see if anything changes.

Thanks for this. The part was purchased new from Advance Auto Parts, so I'm assuming it was working since the blower came right on when it was plugged in, but still won't do anything but run on 60 degree high air. I will do as you suggest next. Trying to avoid having to remove the ECC panel as I've heard this never turns out well.

rspi/97black850;
mechanic is telling me that the J relays are fine - that it is the main switch at the ECC panel and that this part is $800 but could not provide a part#. I cannot figure out what the name of the part is to look it up myself - any ideas from the group would be apprecciated! Cannot do $800!

I can get you a used unit but my bet is on the fan resistor. PM me if you'd like for me to get you a use unit which will have a warranty.

I did buy a second resistor - a big piece with several long metal pieces sticking out the back. Same thing. I found a climate control unit on Ebay for $65 today and went ahead and bought it. Saw some for over $900! Hopefully this fixes it. Getting close to giving up on this car - almost 18 years. Thanks for the help.
