96 850R Smoking
I recently had my oil changed and since then, the car smokes quite a bit, especially after idling. When I accelerate onto the highway after idling, the car smokes a lot, but it doesn't last. There is also a smell at times of what seems like a hot engine but I usually fool myself into thinking that's someone else's car...
I've seen other posts on here that seem to point to the turbo, just wondering if that's the general consensus.
Have approx. 130,000 miles on the car, and it's burning oil, but far as I can tell, no leaks. I have been down 2 quarts at times in just over 3 weeks, mostly highway traffic driving, although some high speed traveling.
Any insight is much appreciated. New to the forum, sure glad it's here.
Thanks,
jim p.

RE: 96 850R Smoking
If you had the oil change performed at a "Quick Lube" facility, I would look over your receipt (if you kept it) and see what oil they actually put back into the vehicle. It's quite possible that the oil that was put back into the vehicle may be the wrong type (weight/viscosity). Even if it looks right on the receipt, it could also be quite possible that the Lube Tech grabbed the wrong oil feed line within the shop and pumped the incorrect oil into your vehicle.
I'm thinking it's the wrong type of oil, since you had no issues prior to the oil change, but are suddenly experiencing the smoking after the oil change.
As silly as it may sound, if it were me, I'd drain the existing oil out and refill with the proper oil you always use and see what type of results are yielded after the correct oil refill.
