Default 96-97 ECU in a 95 car?

I have a 95 850 Turbo car with a 97 engine running on the 95 ecu. The car runs great but the 97 engine does not have EGR and the 95 did. So the check engine light is on all the time throwing a code for the EGR. I would rather not have to get a 95 intake manifold and all the other EGR stuff I would need and put on there just to get rid of the annoying light. I was told that I can just put a 97 ECU and it should work. But I have since heard that you would also need the 97 engine harness. Does anyone know if this is true? If it that involved I will just deal with it and continue to clear the codes just as I am going through the line to pass emissions. It takes a about a 1/2 hour to come back on. Thank You.

I am running a 96-97 Chipped ECU in my 95 T5R with no problems.

On my car it takes a little longer for the check engine light to come on after a problem. But that might be the chipped part of it.
I can even clear the codes through the OBDI port.

Amazing internet - I am trying to pick up a 96 850 R ECU right now and had this exact question... I'm going to stuff it in my 95 850 R (when the time is right).... I was hoping that it was going to work!!

If it doesn't... that's going to reealy suck..

I wonder if the compatability is based on WHO chips the ECU... or if they're interchangable by nature.... I read something about EGR system.. some fuel system checks... /shrug.

If you find one without EGR and air pump it will work fine and you will have the EGR delete in there and you will not have to worry about the EGR anymore.

The 96R one should work fine in your car.
