96 r ecu

if i were to be able to get my hands on a 96 R ECU and wanted to put that ECU in my 96 turbo, is that possible? wat can i expect to change? and would anything get affected by it? would i have to replace any certain amount of parts?

gilber33 10-07-2009 03:14 PM

No, it's a direct swap. You technically get a 40 hp gain, which equals to about 1-2 more psi boost for a second or two. You would get more gains with a boost gauge and MBC, but more efficient gains with the ECU.

couldnt i just do all 3? ECU, MBC, and boost guage?

aswell wat r great MBC's but nothing to intensely expensive

I have a 95 T-5R ECU for Sale

s_moneh 10-07-2009 04:05 PM

would that work fine on a 96 turbo? and how much?

gilber33 10-07-2009 04:57 PM

It would work for a 96 but you will get a CEL for the EGR. Just do a google search for MBC. You could do all three, but it would be kind of pointless. The instead of 9-10 PSI on the stock ECU, the R ECU gives you 11-12 PSI, so there's really no reason in spending the money on a MBC for one more psi.

CEL/ EGR?????

and oooo well if i can get both parts cheap then i'd be pretty happy

gilber33 10-07-2009 06:24 PM

You'll get a check engine light for the EGR because his ECU is from a 95 T5-R which had the EGR and your car is a 96 which did not have the EGR. So the ecu will work, but it will be looking for an EGR and not find one, hence the CEL. I would either get the ECU or the MBC, doesn't make sense to get them both. IMO the ecu would be a better buy because you'll be getting a little added HP and boost the proper way.

s_moneh 10-07-2009 06:29 PM

makes sense, wat does a used R ecu go for no adays, even if i hit some junkyards to find the ecu?

gilber33 10-07-2009 06:49 PM

Good luck at jy. One, because they're aren't that many R's to begin with, and two, they're a hot item. Usually they go anywhere from 100-150.

Legendsecko87 10-07-2009 07:09 PM

Or.

Spend a good 700 on a IPD one. I can grab a used IPD one for 450 locally. I know a guy selling his.

gilber33 10-07-2009 07:31 PM

If you go that route, I would highly recommend a full stage zero and exhaust first.

boxpin 10-08-2009 12:02 AM

S_moneh,

Do your homework and shoot me an offer.

Its a good ECU from a running T-5R.

s_moneh 10-12-2009 01:03 PM

alrity checked inventory at some local junkyards and it just so happens thers 3 96 R's at the scrapper( i know sad!) soooo now that i have found some candidates, how do i know which big block in the box is the ECU so i can go ahead and take one and slap it into mine? :)

gilber33 10-12-2009 01:29 PM

Pretty sure it's the ones that say 7.2 on them. I think. Where are you located anyways?

s_moneh 10-12-2009 01:36 PM

not far from toronto, its in a toronto scrap yard, canada :)

Bosch = ECU
Asian Warner = Tranny module.

gilber33 10-12-2009 02:07 PM

I want a pick n pull so bad, I would go there every weekend to buy stuff.
