hi newbe here have done some minor repairs on 740's but going to look at a 97 850 and seller says the defroster only works on the drivers side and didn't see any mention of this problems in my search. So my question is will i have to remove complete dash or will it be simplier. thanks. Haven't driven car or done anything except a quick walk around

 

Does it have the electronic climate control or the manual climate control? The way to tell is if it says auto anywhere on the climate control unit or you can also look at the fan switch. The electronic unit has high fan speed with a picture of a fan whereas the manual unit has 0 to 4 for fan speeds.

The problem is the same but the fix is different.

When you say "defroster" are you referring to the front windshield and cleaning it off or are you referring to the "driver side" mirror "defroster"?

 

yes i am referring to the front windshield or at least that was what i was told ; won't be able to start/drive car til Sunday as that is the first free time that i have and the seller is available and he is going to locate records for when timing belt was done last and believe it has the inoperative sunroof that seems to be prone to the 850

 

Could be the damper motor failure (seized) on the pax side. I would wait for Moderator Tech's suggestion.
