ABS or NO ABS????
okay guys...theres a problem i have that i need some assist on....i have a 97 850GLT..should come with abs right? but i could lock up without any abs activating..and also no abs light at ignition or startup...but i checked today and i have the abs unit right next to the brake master cylinder..?? I've checked the fuses for the main motor and the abs itself but they look fine....any ideas what to check next?
The abs module might be bad.The bulb might also be missing or burned out.If you can have the codes pulled it will let you know if there is any codes in there. Then that will also let you know if the bulb is bad or missing.
It is located under the ABS pump which is located under the master cylinder.

That guy rebuilds them for a lot less than the new ones. The new ones are like $400.00

Might also be a bad ABS pump or pump relay. How long have you owned the car and how much of it's history do you know? Shady dealers sometimes remove dash lights instead of spending money to properly repair cars.
sometimes when the abs go bad you will get a pulsing at the pedal when you get to a certain speed from take off if that is happening it probably is the abs unit.I have used Victor on my abs unit straight forward guy and fast turn around
Having just gone through the is it or isn't it thing with the ABS module, I can only say I want to join the chorus singing the praises for Vic Rocha's work. Apparently some with older than '96 models have not had such success, but we have a '96 850 Turbo Wagon, and Vic was patient working us through the removal of the module (a bit tight in the Turbo model), repaired the unit quickly and had it back to us. The whole process took about a week, and the car was driveable without the module. (A bit odd driving w/out a speedometer, but I got acclimated after just a few minutes---just keep up with traffic.) So, if your situation mirrors the symptoms described on his site, I'd highly recommend Vic.
