Default ABS Question?

Can a bad (starting to go bad) wheel bearing (hub) make the abs sensors give bad readings to the ABS mod?

Ive got a bearing starting to go and today I felt vibration thru the brake pedal, felt like a electric razor when I came to a stop and was holding down the brake. I pulled the ABS fuses for a while and it went away.

Any Suggestions?

Usually a bad bearing will not cause an ABS code.

If so, what might the electric razor sensation in the brake when at full stop?

Clean the crap out of the wheel sensors and the problem may go away. What year is the car? It makes a difference on the diagnosis and the diagnostic procedure.

Its a 95 850 turbo wagon, I changed both axles last weekend and had to bang pretty hard on the control arm to get the ball joints out, Im wondering if I may have damaged one of the front sensors.......maybe?

Hmm... not sure how likely this is, but I'll throw it out there. I once had a customer bring me a Ford Contour with a very perplexing ABS issue that had apparently driven several other mechanics out of their gourds trying to solve, and was about to make me insane until I just happened to see that the toner ring (toothed wheel) on one of the CV shafts was cracked, which caused the space between those 2 teeth to widen. What would happen is, the ABS would occasionally activate at random on the wheel that had the cracked ring, usually just as the car was coming to a stop, say, 1 or 2 MPH. I figured out that the larger gap made the ABS module think that that wheel was locking up. I replaced the shaft, and the problem went away.I've since seen the same thing on another Ford Contour (Contours have really thin toner rings that crack easily) Perhaps this is what has happened with your car? maybe as you were hammering away at the control arm, a toner ring got cracked? I'd check each of them- rotate them slowly and look for a crack between 2 teeth. Just a possibility.

I don't think it came from the front, as I replaced both axles during this job. I just did the rear brakes today and discovered that the emerg pads had exploded....nothing but big chunks of pad. I replaced everything and noticed alot of debris on the sensors. I drove all today and no Razor feeling......must have done the trick.
